context

VicForest is a state-owned business that sells, grows and protects timber in the Victorian forests. We helped the business to ensure accessible and logical organization of content and redesigned the website to express their brand values visually and vocally to a much more modern outlook for historical purposes.

CHALLENGE

Like any other publicly aligned business they were frequently audited by regulatory bodies and reported on in the media. When we were brought into this project, the company had been mired in a few such controversies.

The brand’s promise and personality had lost its way, no longer reflecting the values it claimed to stand for. It wasn’t just about a new look—we had to rethink the brand voice, bring important information to the forefront, and redesign the brand and website to rebuild trust, be transparent, and actually align with its core values.

impact

Although the initial setback of reworking the narrative was minor, the clarity it brought made designing for the project significantly easier and more impactful. For 3 years, the website stood by Vicforest's sustainable initiatives to make a difference from their mistakes. With a strong visual identity, templates for marketing assets and design system they were able to stay consistent throughout the years.

Sadly, not all stories end well. The legal disputes were too strong leading to the closure of Vicforest but their brand still stands strong.

From the research and heuristic analysis, we understood that the website's content-rich nature posed problems such as inaccessibility to navigate and find relevant information, outdated data, and inconsistent visual direction.

Principal UX Consultant, Terrific Minds

"It is unusual to find a grad student who has so much enthusiasm and hands-on experience in user experience design. Ritty worked as a UX design intern at Terrific Minds. She was involved in user research and designing intuitive solutions pertaining to improving enterprise retail applications. I am particularly impressed with her accountability, attention to detail and ability to be a self-starter. She successfully managed up to 5 client projects from the US and EU region. Ritty, I wish you all the best and look forward to collaborating with you in the future."
